As-salāmu ʕalaykum is of Biblical origin

As-salāmu ʕalaykum (السلام عليكم) is the sentence which muslims say to greet. But is that own of Islam?

As we know, "as-salāmu ʕalaykum" means "peace be with you", and this phrase is found in the Bible in this verses:

-Luke 24:36: "While they were still speaking about this, he stood in their midst and said to them, 'Peace be with you.'"

-John 20:19: "On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, 'Peace be with you.'"

-John 20:21: "Jesus said to them again, 'Peace be with you'. As the Father has sent me, so I send you."

-John 20:26: "Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, 'Peace be with you'."

Jesus used to speak Aramaic and this phrase in Aramaic is šlam ʕleǩon (ܫܼܠܡ ܠܟܘܢ). Jews also say it in Hebrew, which is šalom ʕaleyǩem (שלום עליכם‎).

as-salāmu ʕalaykum - السلام عليكم

šlam ʕleǩon - ܫܼܠܡ ܠܟܘܢ

šalom ʕaleyǩem - שלום עליכם‎

In fact, Catholics say "peace be with you" when they give peace salutation in Catholic masses.

So if a Christian or a Jew says as-salāmu ʕalaykum don't be surprised.
